Studies on Contemporary China series. "In the coming decades environmental issues will play an increasing role in China's economic development drive, internal politics, legal development, international relations, and regional development issues. While several books have appeared in the 1990s which describe tangible aspects of China's environmental degradation, this book concentrates on management of China's environment within various contexts and represents the state of thinking on the subject by some of the world's key experts in this field. It provides an international perspective on environmental problems in China which is often lacking. Chapters discuss environmental degradation in Chinese history, the organization of China's environmental protection network, the legal framework for environmental protection, agricultural land issues, water issues, biodiversity, energy, pollution, public health, and business opportunities for foreign firms. Wile this book shows that there is much room for optimism, it also indicates that many environmental problems remain intractable and some are worsening." Listing updated 2-1-2006.…

Shipping terms
The shipping cost covers postage and packaging. We do not inflate the shipping costs so that we can list the book at a lower price, nor do we inflate the price of the book to cover increased shipping costs. Shipping costs are based on books weighing less than 2 lbs. (0.91 kg). Delivery Confirmation is included with standard U.S. (Media Mail) shipping. If your book order is heavy or oversized, or if there is a shipping cost statement at the end of the book description with a higher rate, you will be contacted by AbeBooks via email to approve the additional shipping charge. If the shipping statement indicates a lower rate, we will reduce your shipping charge when we process your order. The default rates are set to cover the cost of shipping a two-pound book to the most expensive destination within each category. Because of the risks inherent to mailing we will not ship any book without a packing slip (usually Abebooks Shipping Manifest), which includes the package's destination and a return address. We do not include an invoice or pricing. For an additional fee of $3.00, books can be shipped directly to your customer with your return address and/or have the price markings removed. Please specify in the Special Instructions section, and approve the request for extra charges that will follow. We are unable to honor special requests unless they are included in the Special Instructions section or made via email correspondence (Book Inquiries, etc.) that takes place before we process your order. Instructions embedded in the destination address are both annoying and counterproductive to mailing your order accurately -- they will be deleted and disregarded.
