Managing the Creative Mind

Managing the Creative Mind explores techniques inmanaging a team of technicians for the production ofThe Taming of the Shrew. It is also a documentationof a Technical Director's process. More than theorganization of the project, it focuses on thepeople. I wanted to experience what made thetechnicians tick and test my theories on motivationand efficiency. I kept a log of conversations andhappenings for each of the people involved in theproduction. I made assignment decisions based on myreaction to their personalities and experience. Thegoal was to make people excited to be there and, inturn, produce a forward thinking, can-do environmentwhere the production would run itself. Included is ascript analysis, statement of goals, process,evaluation, technical drawings, paperwork andphotographs.

Paul Marin Flint received his BFA from Shorter College and hisMFA from Southern Illinois University Carbondale. His creditsinclude; Alliance Theatre, Glimmerglass Opera, Seaside Repertorytheatre and Vitalist Theatre. He is currently the TechnicalDirector for Zach Scott Theatre in Austin, Texas.
