Managing the temperature-sensitive drug circuit: Application of the Failure Mode, Effect and Criticality Analysis method

The temperature-sensitive medication (TSM) circuit in the hospital environment is a high-risk process. Preventive measures are recommended to secure this circuit. In this context, we propose to analyze the modes of failure of the circuit of these drugs in our hospital and to propose a plan of action.A multi-disciplinary working group was recruited to analyze the STD circuit and identify failures using the failure modes, effects and criticality analysis method. After validation of the process mapping, the failure modes, their effects and causes were defined during brainstorming meetings. Failure modes were classified according to criticality index. The most critical failures were The proposed action plan would enable 71% of the risks to be controlled. Three lines of action were proposed: raising awareness among healthcare staff, acquisition of equipment, and documentation of the STD circuit process.
