How To Read This Guide

The Manhattan Doctor Guide has been organized to make its information easily accessible and readable. There are indexes at the front for "Specialty" and a list of the "Top Five" doctors in each field of expertise covered. Indexes by "Location", "Hospital Affiliation," "Insurance Providers" and "Medicare Providers," as well as an index of "Specialists by Languages Spoken."

The doctors are listed alphabetically in the main body of the Guide. Each entry contains a wealth of useful information:

Scores

Doctors are given a score for their own competence and abilities and another score for their office staff and atmosphere. The third score for each office represents the overall score for the office as reported by our respondents. All scores are averages of multiple responses and are calculated on a scale of 1-10.

Patient Comments

In addition to the ratings, many patients chose to tell us additional information about their physicians. These direct quotations, which are presented in italic, were selected to provide firsthand information about the doctors. If respondents chose only to answer the survey questions and not offer additional personal comments, then the "Patients Comments" section will be blank.

Office Information & Prices

The Office Information has been provided directly by the doctors' offices and is the most up-to-date information available on policies, prices and procedures. If this section is blank, it indicates that the individual doctor declined to provide the corresponding data. Prices quoted are average fees; they do not include tests or other diagnostic procedures. Fees will may vary according to the complexity and time required for each case. To be sure of the fee you will be charged, you should check with the office staff when you make an appointment.

HMO/PPO Information

All health plans for which the doctor is a provider are indexed. Additional indexes are included for Medicare and Medicaid providers. Private practitioners who do not participate in any HMO or PPO are indexed separately.

Language Information

The foreign languages listed for each doctor reflect languages spoken by the doctor or by someone on the doctor's staff. An index is provided to help you find doctors' offices where someone speaks your language.

Hospital Affiliations, Specialty and Medical Education Information

Provided by the doctor's offices, The New York State Medical Directory, The American Medical Association database and various other sources. Indexes are provided to help you find doctors affiliated with specific hospitals and specialties.
