The Mannerist Mind: Prints from the Georg Baselitz Collection (Paperback or Softback)

From Parmigianino to Hendrick Goltzius, this catalog presents highlights from the print collections of Georg Baselitz and the Museum of Fine Arts, Budapest.

Georg Baselitz and his collection of Mannerist prints enjoy widespread acclaim. This publication presents an extensive selection from his collection, along with works from the Museum of Fine Arts, Budapest, offering a chance to compare the character of an artist’s private collection with that of a major institution as a method for viewing Mannerism in the twenty-first century. By exploring how artists have collected old master prints in the past and today, Mannerist Mind both reassesses well-known Mannerist works and brings previously unpublished examples to light. Essays by eminent international experts present the latest scholarship on artists’ collecting and discuss how to evaluate Mannerist art from the contemporary point of view. An exclusive interview with Baselitz reveals the motivations and stories behind his peerless collection.

This book includes masterworks from Arcimboldo, Dürer, Antonio Fantuzzi, Léon Davent, Geoffroy Dumonstier, Juste de Juste, Parmigianino, Andrea Schiavone, Ugo da Carpi, Domenico Beccafumi, Hendrick Goltzius, Lucas Cranach, Hans Sebald Beham, and many more.
