xiv + 302 pages + 2 pages publishers ads. Condition Very Good; off white hardback binding, good, some minor wear/ ageing. Contents, Very good, clean & tight copy, did not notice any inscriptions, some rough cut or uneven pages as issued, inside rear cover is a small decorative label for Frank Murray bookseller Derby. 'The Gentleman's Magazine' was founded in London in 1731. It was published to educate its readers, its regular contributors include Samuel Johnson, Jonathan Swift, William Falconer, Richard Weston, Mary Barber and many more. Edited by George Laurence Gomme, a folklorist and a strong interest in history. This volume includes social manners and customs in England in 1697, odd customs ancient and modern, marriage customs, shepherd's customs, funeral customs, Holly boy and Ivy girl, Highland customs, plays and pastimes of children and lots more all published by The Gentleman's Magazine between 1731 to 1868.
