The author is the leader and originator of the school of logotherapy or existential analysis. After three grim years at Auschwitz and other Nazi prisons, Dr. Frankl gained freedom at the war's end only to learn that almost his entire family had been wiped out. But during, and indeed partly because of the incredible suffering and degradation of those difficult years, he developed his theory of logotherapy. In the preface to this book, Harvard University's Gordon Allport calls it "an introduction to the most significant psychological movement of our day." And his theory is perhaps the most important since Freud and Adler.

About the Author

Viktor E. Frankl developed the revolutionary approach to psychotherapy known as logotherapy, founded on the belief that humanity's primary motivational force is the search for meaning. One of the great psychotherapists of this century, he was head of the neurological department of the Vienna Polyclinic Hospital for twenty-five years and is the author of thirty-one works on philosophy, psychotherapy, and neurology, including the classic Man's Search For Meaning, which has sold over nine million copies around the world.
