Much work has been produced in recent years regarding critical studies of men's practices utilizing various feminist and pro-feminist perspectives. This book widens what has hitherto been a dialogue primarily within the Western democracies. The editors have brought together a number of established and new scholars to provide a broader critical analysis of men's practices across a wide range of socio-cultural settings. Particular attention is given to the fact that most studies of globalization and transnational social policy have tended not to encompass issues of men's practices at all.
Issues covered within this volume include: men as carers of children or other adults; men as professional welfare workers; men's health, crime and sexual violence; and men's practices in organizations. Several contributions explore the complex transnational intersections and interactions occurring in the way men's practices are developing across the globe. In addition to this comparative analysis, a wide and carefully selected range of national studies are included from Europe, the Americas, and Asia, as well as Australia and South Africa.

Bob Pease is Chair of Social Work in the School of Health and Social Development at Deakin University in Geelong, Australia. He has published widely in the fields of masculinity studies and critical approaches to social work practice and is the author or co-editor of ten previous books. His most recent co-edited books are the International Encyclopedia of Men and Masculinities (2007), Migrant Men: Critical Studies of Masculinities and the Migration Experience (2009) and Critical Social Work: Theories and Practices for a Socially Just World (2nd edition 2009). He has been involved in profeminist masculinity politics for many years and actively engaged in campaigns to end men's violence against women.
Michael S. Kimmel is a well-known educator concerning gender issues. His work has appeared in dozens of magazines, newspapers and scholarly journals, including the New York Times Book Review, the Harvard Business Review, The Nation and Psychology Today, where he was a Contributing Editor and columnist on male-female relationships. His teaching examines men's lives from a pro-feminist perspective. He is national spokesperson for the National Organization for Men Against Sexism (NOMAS) in the States.
