Synopsis:
PREFACE. I DIJ) not write this little book ,vith the intention of apologizing to the prospective reader, so soon as I had done so, but vith the honest, I hope not egotistical, feeling that I had something- to say that )vas not generally kllo,vn. Ve live to learn and to impart'what w'e know'to others, a.nd I have taken this method of giving lny experience in a pastill1e that is clevating~ artistic in every sense of the ,vorc1, and a vholesorne relief from the cares of business. In regard to the ,york itself, I can shov sam pIes of every thing of any ilnportance described or given in it. I have not made all of the patterns given in the back part, for that is D1ere l'outine, but in gross, and in most details, the book is the result of experience, and ,vill be found reliable as far M it goes. That it does not cover every possible change and use to which the lathe can be put, I am well avare. Something must be left for the vorktnan to find out himself.
