Language: - English, About The Book: The book's purpose was to present a systematic framework tailored to India, designed as a point of reference for those well-versed in Legal Medicine. It covered a wide array of subjects, encompassing the distribution of crime within India, and adeptly adapted to changes in criminal law that emerged due to the introduction of the Indian Penal Code and the Code of Criminal Procedure. Notably, this edition underwent substantial augmentation and revisions, seamlessly integrating a wealth of facts and case studies sourced from the Court of Nizamut Adawlut of the North-Western Provinces. Chevers extended his gratitude to colleagues and acquaintances for their valuable input. The edition's objective was to offer a pragmatic resource addressing India's distinctive medico-legal inquiries, delving into various crimes against individuals and intricate legal intricacies. About The Author: Norman Chevers (1818–1886) was an English physician and surgeon renowned for his work in the Bengal Medical Service. He gained prominence through his research on constrictive pericarditis. Educated at Guy's Hospital and Glasgow University, Chevers pursued physiology research at Guy's Hospital and private practice in London. Joining the Bengal Medical Service in 1848, he became Principal of Calcutta Medical College in 1862 and retired as Deputy Surgeon General in 1876. Chevers held controversial views, attributing burning feet syndrome to "malarial neuralgia" and challenging the germ theory for diseases like enteric fever and cholera. He advocated photography for forensic investigation, conducted physiological studies on child marriage, and engaged in discussions about sati's origin. Chevers authored works on medical jurisprudence and India's diseases.
