A Manual of Microchemical Analysis (Classic Reprint)

Unlock the chemical makeup of rocks with tiny, precise tests you can perform in small samples.

This guide presents practical microchemical methods for the qualitative analysis of minerals and rocks, using wet chemistry to reveal the presence and behavior of elements in a rock’s grains and mixtures. It emphasizes how to apply these techniques to real samples, including rocks, ores, and water, to confirm what is seen under the microscope.

The book introduces two broad approaches to chemical examination: isolating minerals from powdered rock to build a full analysis, and using microchemical methods that work directly on minute particles. It outlines common workflows, from preparing specimens to carrying out targeted tests that identify specific elements and compounds. The material is geared toward practical, hands-on work in petrography and mineral science.

• Learn the strategic steps for isolating minerals from powdered rocks to support chemical analysis.
• Understand how wet microchemical methods are used to test for acids, bases, and a range of elements.
• Explore procedures for examining rocks, ores, and water with careful, repeatable tests.
• See how microchemical results complement microscopic and other petrographic findings.

Ideal for readers of geology, petrology, mineralogy, and laboratory science who want a hands-on, reagent‑based approach to rock analysis.
