A very good original binding. 8vo. [4pp.]/pp.86/[20pp. catalogue] .8" x 4" x 0.25" . Brown cloth over bevelled boards with coloured five-point star and gilt titles to front cover (the rear board with a similar blind-stamp design). Corners bumped and edges a little rubbed. . Clean light brown endpapers. Coloured frontis of the five-point star. Followed by a presentation page with hand-coloured border, with details: "Presented to Naomi J. Briggs By Flagler Chapter No. 355 State of New York, 1909." Clean printed title dated 1875. Clean text throughout, well illustrated with numerous woodcuts, diagrams and musical notation. A good copy of a scarce book. ** " The Order of the Eastern Star is a fraternal organization that both men and women can join. It was established in 1850 by Rob Morris, a lawyer and educator from Boston, Massachusetts, who had been an official with the Freemasons. It is based on teachings from the Bible,[1] but is open to people of all monotheistic faiths. It has approximately 10,000 chapters in twenty countries and approximately 500,000 members under its General Grand Chapter. Members of the Order are aged 18 and older; men must be Master Masons and women must have specific relationships with Masons." - See Wikipedia .
