After stating that the roads of the United States are inferior to those of any other civilized country, Gillespie offers a comprehensive guide to everything the road builder knew in 1848. Brown cloth w/gilt lettering to spine, 340 pages + four pages of tables, illustrated. Edgewear, scraping/fraying/wear to corners/spine edges, spine partially detached, previous owner's signature to front end paper, considerable foxing throughout, some dampstaining. Size: 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall.
