Maori Rafter and Taniko Designs

Long out of print, this classic guide to the design of meeting-house rafters, taniko weaving and tukutuku returns in an all-new colour printing. Maori Rafter & Taniko Designs is an essential source of information about the development and features of whakairo tuhituhi. This complete redesign of W.J. Phillipps' classic work, first published in 1943, introduces key patterns in an accessible manner with rich illustrations. Beginning with the koru, the book develops from analysis of drawings to real examples, including important meeting house designs. The beautifully rendered patterns gain new life in a generous layout that will be of value to students and experts alike.
