Octavo. Bound in the original half calf and pebbled cloth binding of the USGS. Binding a bit worn. Original marbled endpapers. Marbled edges. Two slightly different separate title pages. Single large folding map which has had a bit of restoration on the fold lines. A number of blank sheets at the rear. Generally a very clean example. Arctic Biblio. 18358, Wickersham 8223, Kurutz 585. Prepared in Accordance with Public Resolution No. 3 of the Fifty-fifth Congress, Second Session, Approved January 20, 1898. Although a lot of the text relates to details of Alaska, there is an excellent summary on the Klondike with the main routes of access. The author makes an interesting observation in that the amount of gold removed from the Klondike in just the first year exceeds the purchase price for all of Alaska. If only the Russian negotiators had known, perhaps the boundaries would now be different in Northern Canada. The large map has excellent detail and two inserts of access routes.
