Uncolored map on stiff paper of the Atlantic coast from Savannah to just north of Charleston. Very good condition, with light soiling in bottom margin, center-fold crease. This is one of two states of this map, likely the later state, with small insets at the bottom center of the Confederate forts, Fort Walker and Fort Beauregard. These forts were at the entrance of Port Royal Harbor, with Fort Walker being on Hilton Head Island and Fort Beauregard on Phillips Island. The other state of this map did not include these insets. This map was likely issued to acquaint Northerners with this area after the attack on Fort Sumter and to conincide with Union assaults which took the two forts featured later in 1861. Stephenson 368.
