47x45.7 cm. Uncolored map removed from Pike's Account of the Expeditions to the Sources of hte Mississippi (Philadelphia: 1810) in very good condition. Very light staining or offsetting. Creases from previous folds. One short mended tear along a fold. A fine copy of a very important map by Pike. In spite of largely being based on the maps of Alexander von Humboldt, which were available to Pike despite not being published until a year after this was published, this is an important, landmark map of the American West. Wheat 299: "When all is said, the three maps of Pike's Account . offered to the American people a new and fascinating picture of the great Southwest across which the Santa Fe Trail would run before many years, as well as of important parts of the central mountain region still dominated by the great peak that bears the young Lieutenant's name."See Wagner-Camp 9, Howes P373, Graff 3290, Streeter Texas 1047, Wheat (Transmississippi West) 299 (Illustrated at v.2, p.25 though misidentified as number 298).…
