Large survey map backed with original linen. Very good condition with mild chipping at edges and corners. This is an extremely attractive manuscipt survey map of land at the south end of what is now the city of New Rochelle, along Long Island Sound. The map is hand-colored, with the Pond, which connects to the Sound, shown in a brilliant blue and wooded areas in green with individual trees depicted. Davenport Neck, which is still known by that name, is clearly identified on the east side of the map. There is an extensive text description of the property at the bottom right. This is fascinating piece of local history which can also be seen as a beautiful piece of folk art.
