Good restored condition, though somewhat dark, with some small areas of loss from chipping. Varnish removed, modern linen backing, original rods. 30 inset town plans, 5 building views. The map has been laid out with the western portion of the county at the top and the eastern portion at the bottom, which enabled Chase to produce a roughly square map, not a wide, short map which would have resulted had the county been represented in a continuous manner. Land owners identified. Full color by town. This was the second map devoted specifically to Suffolk County, the earlier being the map in David Burr's Atlas of New York State of 1829. That maps, and other earlier general maps of Long Island, had far less detail than this work which provided the first detailed look at the geography and land owners in the eastern portion of Long Island.
