�ngel Guimer� (Santa Cruz de Tenerife, 1845?Barcelona, 1924) constitueix, junt amb Verdaguer i Narc�s Oller, la tr�ada sobre la qual es basa la Renaixen�a de les lletres catalanes. Verdaguer destac� sobretot en la poesia; Oller, en la narrativa, i Guimer�, en el camp del teatre, en qu� no nom�s van posar al dia la literatura catalana sin� que la van situar en el m�n. Mar i Cel, Maria Rosa, La filla del mar i, en especial, Terra baixa s�n les obres m�s conegudes del Guimer� dramaturg: van ser molt populars en la seva �poca i, cent anys m�s tard, encara es continuen representant. Per� Guimer� va ser tamb� un poeta de prestigi i un home molt influent i respectat en els cercles pol�tics catalanistes, pel seu decidit comprom�s amb la p�tria i amb la llengua que ell havia escollit..
