Marie Biancuzzo's Guide to Decoding Lactation Photos: A Continuing Education Workbook 1st Ed

"What Is That?"

You see the mother and baby in front of you, but can you decode the signs before your eyes? Is this sore nipple the result of a bad latch ... or a contagious virus? Is that baby with birth trauma in need of better breastfeeding management ... or a referral to a specialist? This book will help you learn the skills you need to decode whether what you see is this or that, and what the best next step would be.

Whether you seek to prepare for a lactation exam, improve your physical assessment skills, or become the sought-after breastfeeding expert clients will recommend to their friends, this is the book for you! Aspiring (and practicing) lactation consultants, nurse practitioners, midwives, physicians, physician assistants, and other health care workers will gain keen insight from this workbook. It provides need-to-know definitions and context for clinical assessment, as well as nitty-gritty, hands-on tips and strategies to help you solve problems you see.

You'll learn to:

• fine-tune your visual assessment skills to accurately distinguish between clinical conditions you encounter
• recall and apply knowledge of typical features, and their implications for breastfeeding
• solve clinical problems by understanding their origin
• provide detailed context and clarification of terms as they may relate to items on the IBLCE exam

This workbook includes many different kinds of learning exercises--match-up, fill-in-the-blank, word-find, structured summaries, and more--to help you review, reinforce, and expand your knowledge. Post-test questions are included in every chapter, to help you gauge your learning success!
