Reviews: This book grew out of the 1997 Museum of the American Quilters Society's contest, which required entrants to make a quilt based on the traditional Mariner's Compass pattern. This challenging pattern requires accurate drafting of the points of the compass. As these points often number 32 in a single compass, using the block in an innovative contemporary quilt provided a considerable challenge to the 18 finalists whose work in included in the book. Full-color photographs of each quilt along with the quilters' own comments on the creative process make this title of interest not only to quilt lovers but also to aspiring quiltmakers.
