Interview1. Women writing horror is a relatively rare thing (at least authors who get noticed). Do you feel as if you faced any resistance when you started trying to get your work published because you're a woman writing horror?
To be honest, I don't know. When I was submitting Sorrow's Point to publishers, I hadn't noticed a lot of exorcism books coming out. I did get one comment from a few literary agent that amused me. He said, "That type of book scares the crap out of me, so I can't represent it."
2. Do you have any off-limits things when it comes to writing horror?
Sex. Not because I'm against sex, but because as of yet, I haven't written a sex scene well. Also, while sex has become part of the horror genre, you don't need it to have a truly scary story.
3. Your books don't follow the standard formula that people looking for possession horror normally enjoy, so how do you recommend them to get them interested?
I don't consider The Marker Chronicles "possession" books. I consider them "exorcist" books. Because the stories revolve around Jimmy, who is an exorcist, there are many things he can deal with as an exorcist besides the standard demon possession.
