This volume consists of the addresses delivered to the 22nd Annual Convention of the Fellowship of Catholic Scholars held in Chicago in September 1999. Each chapter includes a discussion of one of the major themes related to the contemporary question of marriage and the common good expounded by a competent senior scholar, followed by a response on the same subject by a younger scholar. The end result is an in-depth treatment of several of the major issues that concern marriage and the family today.

About the Author

Kenneth D. Whitehead is a former career diplomat and federal government official who completed his federal career as an Assistant Secretary of Education in the Reagan Administration. He has written or edited seven books with St. Augustine’s Press including: Marriage the Common Good, Mass Misunderstandings: The Mixed Legacy of the Vatican II Liturgical Reforms, The Church, Marriage and the Family, The Catholic Imagination, Battle for the Catholic Mind, After 40 Years: Vatican Council II’s Diverse Legacy and Voices of the New Springtime: The Life and Work of the Catholic Church in the 21st Century.
