Mary Finds a Friend (Paperback)

Paperback. Inspired by actual events, Mary Finds a Friend is a heartwarming story about a fascinating friendship between a yearling moose, named Mary, and a grandmother Welch Cob horse, named Little Bit. During the summer of 2004 the story made national news and baffled biologists, and drew hordes of spectators to a small farm in the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont. The encounter went on to become the longest of its kind in recorded history. Young, alone, and confused after the loss of her mother, Mary ignores her innate solitary moose traits, as she journeys through the trials and tribulations that develop the story's plot. Mary's earthly, and spiritual, instincts mysteriously guide her to a peaceful little village. Here she meets Little Bit and, beyond all odds, the two soon become inseparable. Through summer and autumn, they sleep in an old barn, they graze side by side in the pasture, and they routinely stroll to the Wells River together. When the bitter cold of December sets in, they retreat to the barn to stay the winter. Mary Finds a Friend is a delightful story for children and adults alike. It shares the wonder of compassion and the joy of friendship, and conveys a reverence for nature that touches the reader with a genuine sense of solace and peace. Page by page, beautiful, full-color pictures unveil the credibility of this extraordinary story. A must read for all children, animal lovers, and nature enthusiasts.
