When the 2nd edition was first published in 1957, it was designated as the 5th printing of the book overall (including the printings of both the first and second editions) -- this is the 12th printing of the book overall (actually the 8th printing of the 2nd ed.), the publisher making the printing history unnecessarily complicated.
