Mass Divisions

In Mass Divisions, Roc O’Connor, SJ explores the inner landscapes of persons in our country and church, marked as they are by precarious divisions, to offer a spirituality for these times: How is it that adult disciples engage Word and Sacrament and do not bear fruit of oneness, charity, and reconciliation? This thoughtful work delves into the roots of the false self with compassion, making them available for a new relationship with Christ Incarnate, who has always been present in the places we avoid.

TESTIMONIALS

“Fr. Roc O’Connor, SJ offers readers and fellow disciples, a pilgrimage of the spirituality of being an authentic searcher. This volume is not a quick page-turner. It is not an informational manual. It is a graced invitation coming from a well-traveled soul into his experiences of Faith and prayer, which he shares from his well-prayed spirit. It is written as a heart-to heart invitation for those seeking “Authentic Intimacy.” – Larry Gillick, S.J., Director of the Deglman Center for Ignatian Spirituality, Creighton University

“Mass Divisions asks how good Catholics can profess oneness in Christ yet still choose divisiveness over communion. Where do these divisions come from? How can we surmount them? In his important new book, Roc O’Connor, SJ, a talented theologian and legendary musician, explores the human condition to uncover a new yet challenging place for encountering Christ–in the very places that we disdain and reject in ourselves: in our inadequacies and insufficiencies, which you might call the side effects of our mortality – the source of our divisiveness. This is an inspiring read for anyone looking for a way out of division, a way toward becoming real in relationships.” – James Martin, SJ, author of Learning to Pray and Work in Progress

“With pastoral wisdom and theological depth, Roc O’Connor, SJ, offers a compelling meditation on reconciliation in a divided world. Mass Divisions invites readers to rediscover the Eucharist as a school of encounter and communion.” – Dr. Sebastian Mahfood, OP, co-author with Dr. Ronda Chervin of Catholic Realism
