THE THERAPIST. Susan Salvo is a Licensed Massage Therapist, Natural Therapeutic Specialist, and a Certified Instructor. She holds a baccalaureate in education from McNeese State University, where she is currently working on her master's degree. She received her massage training from the New Mexico School of Natural Therapeutics in Albuquerque. Ms. Salvo is a charter member of the LA Chapter of the American Massage Therapy Association. Ms. Salvo is nationally certified by the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork. She has been practicing massage since 1981.
THE AUTHOR. Ms. Salvo is a nationally known author, having written the best-selling textbooks Massage Therapy: Principles and Practice and Mosby's Guide to Pathology for the Massage Therapist, both of which are published by Elsevier. Ms. Salvo was a member of the test item writing committee for the National Certification Exam. She was a member of the standard setting team for the Federation of State Massage Therapy Boards. Ms. Salvo is one of the initial task force members of the Massage Therapy Body of Knowledge Project and is on the Advisory Board of the American Pregnancy Massage Association. In 2009-2010, she created a series of online pathology courses based upon her pathology book.
THE INSTRUCTOR. Ms. Salvo is the owner and director of the Louisiana Institute of Massage Therapy. Ms Salvo is one of the featured experts interviewed in the 2007 documentary film, History of Massage Therapy in the United States. She was a speaker at the 36th Annual Institute on Oncology Nursing in 2009. In 2010 she spoke at the AMTA National Convention in Minneapolis on the topics of "Geriatric Massage" and "Massage and Cancer". In 2011 she presented the keynote speech at the 25th Anniversary of the Louisiana Chapter of the AMTA State Convention in Baton Rouge.
