Synopsis
Not many folk claim to have mastered parenting, but I do. Reflecting on my years as a single parent, I share with readers the strategies that I used to rear successful children. Why? I share portions of my story so that today's parents can glean some of the insight and grit necessary for rearing children they will like as adults. I want parents to know that it is possible for children to grow up and become decent and respectable human beings in the 21st century if the parents are committed to putting the children at the center of all decisions that are made. The media constantly highlights families in crisis with one or more parents making poor choices that negatively impact the lives of children. Rarely do they showcase families who are getting the act of parenting right. Parents need light shed on positive examples of quality parenting. I Mastered Parenting is that light.
About the Author
Dr. Veda Pendleton McClain is a Christian mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, niece, cousin, friend, author, advocate, teacher, mentor, parent educator, learner, encourager, thinker and motivational speaker. She writes from her heart telling the world about the life that she has lived rearing her five children mostly by herself. As a single mother, she had to learn to let go of fear and embrace the challenges that lay before her in rearing her children. In doing so, she faced obstacles along the way and made mistakes. Those obstacles were her stepping stones, and the mistakes were the lessons that she learned in the process. It is her prayer that her writings will shed light on to others in meaningful ways that will benefit their families as they parent their children. Dr. McClain is the author of The Intentional Parenting Plan (TIPP) and Your Presence is Requested, both books on parenting. Her statement of faith is evidenced in All Your Words Are True: Reminders of God's Promises. She contributes frequently to Today's Family, a local parenting magazine, and hosts several blogs. Dr. McClain has spoken to parent groups in Arkansas and Kentucky. She enjoys connecting with parents and families and helping them find solutions to the daily challenges that they face.
