Official illustrated catalogue of the European Paintings and Sculpture from 1300 to 1800 exhibited at the 1939 New York World's Fair. The exhibition, arranged in chronological order, offered a panoramic survey of the greatest art epochs in Europe from 1300, at which time the practice easel painting was established, until about 1800, when in the wake of the French Revolution the foundations of modern art were laid. A selection of sculptures and tapestries were shown together with the paintings to show how closely painting, sculpture and decorative arts were related in the epochs nearest to the Middle Ages.
