The One That Followed

He spent twenty years searching for proof. Now the proof is searching for him.

Ethan Mercer has built a career investigating the haunted corners of Texas: abandoned hospitals, forgotten cemeteries, lonely bridges, and roadside legends. Every case has ended the same way: faulty wiring, animals in the dark, old buildings settling, people seeing what they expected to see.

Then an invitation brings him to Mercy Draw, a dying West Texas town built around the legend of a notorious grave.

What Ethan uncovers should have ended another haunting. Instead, it follows him home.

Recordings begin showing moments he never filmed. Viewers identify the same motionless man in videos recorded years apart. Witnesses place Ethan in places he has never been. Official records quietly change around him, replacing what happened with versions that are almost right.

And always, somewhere near the edge of the story, stands a man in a long black coat and a wide-brimmed hat with hands folded behind his back, waiting beside the road.

The deeper Ethan investigates, the less certain he becomes that the danger is a ghost, a place, or even a person.

Some stories do not haunt where they began.

Some travel.

And some only need someone willing to stop.

The One That Followed is a Texas Gothic supernatural horror novel blending folklore, investigative suspense, psychological mystery, and the quiet terror of evidence that can no longer be trusted.
