Math Myths for the Modern Child: Volume 1

Author: This is the BEST math short story collection for kids!
Skeptical Middle School Reader: It’s the only one. So, you could also say it’s also the WORST.
Author (sighs, looking at toes): True... but I’m trying to get you to read it. That won’t help.
Reader: I’m not convinced. It says "Math" right in the title and the cover is boring.
Author: How can I get you to try it? I won’t make you finish.
Reader: Maybe if it was funny…
Author: Oh, it’s funny all right!
Reader: Still, it’s about math and math is the worst.
Author: It’s not all about math. It’s about programming computers, and fairies,…
Reader: Still...math.
Author: …and a remote control cat.
Reader: Remote control cat? You can control it?
Author: Well, he’s still a cat, but yeah, mostly. He’s a rescue cat and glows in the dark. He goes into a burning building.
Reader: Ok fine, I’ll try it. but I’ll probably hate it. And I’m not going to finish it if it’s just word problems, or a fraction workbook.
Author (blushes): There’s a tiny section where fairies reduce fractions but you won’t have to do any work, I promise. Math just helps tell the stories. You can forget it as soon as you’re done reading it. There won’t be a quiz.
Reader: Okay.
Author: You’re very brave. If it helps this is what other readers have said about the book:

“I already liked math, but this book made me like reading more." - Jared
“I already liked reading, but this book made me like math more." - Olivia

If you want to look at math a new way, or learn some painlessly, these stories will help!
Be brave, try reading them!
