Be Maths Smart with Addition and Subtraction, Stage 4: Understanding strategies while developing and cementing knowledge

Carefully aligned to the stages of development in numeracy, this series has been designed to supplement the classroom programme with activities to follow up each key concept after it has been introduced. The activities reinforce learning while keeping the work varied and stimulating. Word problems show the concept in a real-life context and students are encourages to write their own problem and apply their understanding. Rubrics, curriculum links and clear learning intentions guide teachers in their planning and students in their learning.

Jackie Andrews is the principal of St Teresa's Primary School, Christchurch, New Zealand, where for the last 10 years she has enjoyed teaching and learning alongside students she describes as "the most fabulous little people". Her classroom experience, combined with her leadership role, continues to shape the practical, supportive resources she creates for busy educators to make teaching manageable, engaging and effective. Her 75+ educational titles across mathematics, English and curriculum planning are widely used in schools. As schools work through ongoing curriculum changes, Jackie is particularly passionate about creating resources that help teachers make sense of new expectations and confidently support learning so that students experience success in the classroom. Outside of education, Jackie's greatest joy has been watching her own children grow up and begin to spread their wings.
