A Fellow of the New Zealand Royal Society and recipient of the Hector Medal in Science by the NZ Royal Society, he is the author or coauthor of 15 statistical books and an extensive book on counselling.  His research interests have included linear and nonlinear modeling, multivariate analysis,  statistical ecology, genetics, epidemiology, and adaptive sampling.
