Synopsis
Matteo Thun, born in 1952, is renowned as one of the founder of Scottsass Associati and of Memphis. His highly individual path is presented here for the first time in the form of a monograph. Endowed with a quite striking, baroque formal language, he has cultivated in quite unparalleled manner the art of designing "anonymous” mass articles for industry. The combination of fun and seriousness, style and gag, content and façade continually challenge him. Yet his emphasis on the decorative, on surfaces, have made him a decidedly controversial figure. He works for companies such as AEG, Philipps, Martin Stoll, Campari, Swatch and many others in the areas of product and interior design, packaging and communication. Five internationally renowned authors, all authorities on his work, describe Matteo Thun, his person and his working methods.
