McGuffey's First Eclectic Reader: A Classic Introductory Reader for Children.

This is the second release in our upcoming series of books pertaining to early childhood entertainment and instruction, and we saw it fitting to make available a faithful and cost effective reproduction of the popular McGuffey’s First Eclectic Reader; this is a book that you can use to highlight and underline words, annotate in the margins, let your children color the pictures, and not feel guilty about spoiling an original edition. The version of the timeless classic reproduced here was first published in 1879 by Van Antwerp, Bragg & Co., and was based on William Holmes McGuffey’s original 1836-37 series of readers.

The McGuffey readers have stood the test of time as a practical and effective introduction to the skills of reading and writing. As the word ‘eclectic’ suggests, this book is adaptable to several methods of imparting reading skills, which engages the visual, aural and tactile senses, using approaches that include the ‘look say’ method, the phonics method and cursive writing. The diligent application of McGuffey’s First Eclectic Reader can be beneficial for discerning parents or tutors who wish to equip children with a solid foundation in preparation for any vocational or academic career path they eventually choose; that foundation consists of the basic skills necessary to comprehend the language and communicate to others effectively.
