The Meaning and Use of Baptizein: Philologically and Historically Investigated, for the American Bible Union (1861)

""The Meaning and Use of Baptizein: Philologically and Historically Investigated, for the American Bible Union"" is a book written by Thomas Jefferson Conant in 1861. The book is an in-depth study of the Greek word ""baptizein"" and its usage in the New Testament. Conant examines the word's meaning and usage in the context of its historical and cultural background, as well as its usage in other Greek literature. The author argues that the word ""baptizein"" means immersion and that this is the most accurate translation of the word in the New Testament. The book was written for the American Bible Union, a group that was dedicated to producing a new translation of the Bible that would be more accurate and accessible to the general public. This book is an important resource for scholars of Biblical languages and history, as well as for anyone interested in the history of Christian baptism. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
