Synopsis
A textbook on assessing adults' socio-emotional maturity based on extant research since 1975, specifically geared to coaching, leadership development, and management consulting. The book teaches social-emotional assessment by way of structured interview, thereby creating in learners the ability of "developmental listening" which has an enormous influence on communication with others. In developmental listening, the listener subordinates him- or herself to the client in a compassionate way by which clients become free to express their innermost social abilities and fears. Readers of the book also learn an assessment method refined from Kegan in that they are taught to formulate social-emotional scores permitting effective interventions that take developmental potential and risk into account.
