Mechanical Stokers Including the Theory of Combustion of Coal (Classic Reprint)

Master the science and practice of coal burning with mechanical stokers.

This edition explains how stokers work, how coal types affect performance, and how to choose and install equipment for efficient, smokeless burning.

This book covers the development and structure of different stoker types, their firing methods, and how to analyze fuel, air, and draft to optimize operation. It blends combustion theory with practical guidance for plant design, selection, and maintenance.

• Overview of stoker types (chain grate, underfeed, overfeed) and where they work best.
• How coal properties, ash, moisture, and sulfur affect ignition, clinker formation, and flame stability.
• Guidance on draft, air supply, and venting to maximize efficiency and minimize emissions.
• Practical installation considerations, specifications, and maintenance routines for boiler rooms.

Ideal for engineers and technicians working with steam plants, coal-fired boilers, and stoker-equipped utilities.
