Bottle and stopper are crystal. The box is wooden. With glass slide, 3 glass tubes. Mirrors & one half used candle, with one spare in drawer. In good condition. One test tube has small nick at head. Authentic dust and cobwebs. Has been made to look in use at time. Lovely display piece. Base Size 10 x 10 inches As simple as this medical laboratory seems to us, it was a major advancement in the field of Medicine, for not only did it include a holding stage for slide (First used in a microscope developed by John Cary in the later part of the 18th Century), it included its own lighting system by the use of two mirrors and a candle. The front mirror is adjusted by the handle and the beam of light is directed onto the slide. this is still the basic form of such lighting systems. The testing glass was made by Beatson and Clark and the bottle & stopper are of crystal. They were 1 of the first companies in London in the middle & late 1700?s to specialise in medical & pharmaceutical glass. The magnifying glass has a 4.5 m.m lens as did the original.
