According to the National Institutes of Health, about 25 percent of the American population does not trust doctors and medical professionals. Wendy Welch is director of the Graduate Medical Education Consortium of Southwest Virginia and author of The Little Bookstore of Big Stone Gap and Fall or Fly: The Strangely Hopeful Story of Foster Care and Adoption in Appalachia. Beth O’Connor has been the executive director of the Virginia Rural Health Association since 2005 and was the 2022 President of the National Rural Health Association.
