Medical Repository of Original Essays and Intelligence Relative to Physic, Surgery, Chemistry, and Natural History

Medical Repository Of Original Essays And Intelligence Relative To Physic, Surgery, Chemistry, And Natural History by Samuel Latham Mitchill and Edward Miller. This dense early 19th?century periodical compiles medical case reports, surgical notes, epidemiology, natural history, and contemporary scientific reviews from American and Atlantic world sources. Covering roughly 1803–1810, it presents detailed vascular surgery observations (including aneurysm ligation attempts and notable healing cases), post?operative outcomes, and practical insights into arterial healing; public health data from New?York Bills of Mortality; debates on vaccination and tropical medicine; embryology and anatomy notes (such as rare intra?ovarian gestation cases); meteorology, geology, and natural history discussions; teething and pediatrics; reviews of major medical literature and reform movements; and institutional notices from Philadelphia to New York. The collection foregrounds cross?disciplinary observation, empirical debate, and the evolving American science infrastructure—gardens, libraries, and societies—intended to inform physicians, scientists, and educated readers about cutting?edge cases, public health data, and the state of medical and natural philosophy in the Atlantic world.”
