Meditations: Selections from Baha'i Scripture

Meditations: Selections from Baha'i Scripture is a collection of passages for meditation and reflection that helps to encourage the habit of regular reflection and meditation and assists readers of any faith on their spiritual path. A rich and inspiring sample of the vast body of Baha'i scripture, this collection will appeal to everyone. It includes passages from the writings of Baha'u'llah, as well as from those of His forerunner, the Bab, and those of His son 'Abdu'l-Baha. It also includes selections from the Bible, the Koran, and the scriptures of other great world religions.

Baha'u'llah, meaning "The Glory of God," is the title assumed by Mirza Husayn-'Ali (1817-1892), the Prophet and Founder of the Baha'i Faith. Baha'is believe Him to be the latest in a line of Messengers from God that includes Abraham, Krishna, Moses, Buddha, Zoroaster, Christ, and Muhammad. The main theme of Baha'u'llah's message is unity. He taught that there is only one God, that all the world's religions represent one changeless and eternal Faith of God, and that all humanity is one race, destined to live in peace and harmony.

Abdu'l-Baha, meaning Servant of the Glory, was the title assumed by Abbas Effendi (1844-1921)--the eldest son and appointed successor of Baha'u'llah, the Prophet and Founder of the Baha'i Faith. A prisoner since the age of nine, Abdu'l-Baha shared a lifetime of imprisonment and exile with his father at the hands of the Ottoman Empire. He spent his entire life in tireless service to, and promotion of, Baha'u'llah's cause and is considered by Baha'is to be the perfect exemplar of the Faith's teachings.
