4to. Orange cloth, spine lettered in gilt, front cover with Chinese characters in gilt. Yellow & orange pictorial end papers. Owner's name and date on half-title leaf, a fine copy in two varieties of the dust jacket. The outer dust jacket is the variety bearing the Caldecott Medal announcements and illustration of the medal on the front flap; the second, inner dust jacket is the original which makes no mention of the Caldecott Medal. The inner dust jacket is in excellent condition, unfaded and with some tiny chips at the edges; the outer jacket is noticeably faded in places and has moderate wear to the edges. Both jackets are unclipped, with the original price of $2.00 on the front flaps. This book won the Caldecott Medal in 1939, the second year it was awarded. A very nice copy, and scarce in the two jackets.
