A good condition late 1800s book in a beautiful full leather binding with an elaborate banded spine. Part 1 only of a 15-part series. Gilding extents to the inner edge of the binding. Textblock edges are gold gilded and pastedowns and endpapers are decoratively marbled. The binding has a few small slacker page sections but is reliable overall. A significant crack at the guttering towards the rear of the book. An ex-libris plate on the front pastedown. Annotations on the front endpapers and title page, the title page mentioning that the previous owner has been to Ceylon. The textblock is very typical for it's age, with a notable tan and a few signs of foxing and aged marks. The text remains legible and crisp and the contents are clean. A nice copy of a scarce 1800s edition.
