Great ideas for unique science fair projects are included in an age-appropriate title that looks at the physical characteristics of different forms of matter and how matter can be changed.
Reviews:
This brightly illustrated book of science projects encourages children to explore the properties of matter. After a discussion of the subject, science fairs, and safety, Gardner presents the first of nine experiments, providing a list of materials and equipment as well as step-by-step directions. On the following double-page spread, Gardner discusses what happened in the experiment and why. He follows up with one or two related ideas. The ink-and-wash pictures illustrate the scientific principles as well as the equipment used in various activities. The words under adult supervision always appear in red type, which makes them hard to miss. Gardner's explanations are clear and his discussions lead readers to think about causes as well as what is happening to matter (in this case, usually water) as it changes form. The new Fantastic Physical Science Experiments series includes several other titles, among them, Sizzling Science Projects with Heat and Energy. Carolyn Phelan
