Black boards with silver title and illustrations on front. Bottom third of the back board has heavy water damage. Spine and corners are bumped. Top and fore edges are rubbed and all edges have light soiling. Binding is still tight but gutters are cracked. Front endleaf has previous owner's inscription and back three endleaves have medium foxing and soiling. Text block is clean. This book is a compilation of eulogies given by members of the Senate and House of Representatives for the late Senator, John Alexander Logan. Other than being a very active member of Congress, Logan was a commissioned brigadier general during the Civil War and conceived of the idea of Memorial Day and inaugurated the observance in May 1868. One notable eulogy included in this book was given by the future 25th President of the U. S. William McKinley, at that time a House Representative from Ohio. ; 4to 11" - 13" tall; 213 pp.
