Memorial of Bishop Hobart. Swords, New York, 1831, frontsportrait, 250 pp, quarter leather with marbled boards, 8 x 5 , 8vo. In good condition. Later binding. Front joint cracked and beginning to split from binding. Remains attached. Light wear to extremities with minor scuffing to tips and end bands. Small ink splotches on front board at edge. Lightly faded marbled covers. Rose gilt tooling on spine remains bright and clean. End papers free of markings, bright. Fresh end papers. Text is lightly age-toned with splotchy foxing isolated to original end papers. Offsetting to tissue guard from frontis. Binding remains intact. Free of known markings. Please see photos. John Henry Hobart (1775-1830) was the third Episcopal bishop of New York. He vigorously promoted the extension of the Episcopal Church in upstate New York, as well as founded both the General Theological Seminary in New York City.
