Memorial With Liminal Space

Mitchell Untch's Memorial With Liminal Space is a staggering work of poetics that delves headfirst into the intersections of grief, faith, and identity.

As the title suggests, these poems are equal parts dense and opaque, casting both light and shadow over the death of the poet's twin brother. Grief and sorrow are on full display in this wrenching collection.

Masterful language and visual inventiveness culminate in a collection that feels intimate and universal, timeless but arriving at a moment when the world is still reeling from the ravages of sickness.

Memorial With Liminal Space draws interesting parallels between the AIDS crisis and the COVID-19 pandemic, specifically focusing on the idea of being a survivor.

This is a large, confessional collection that moves through decades with intense detail. Untch's poems are rich with emotional information that helps readers digest the harrowing realities of loss and eventually glimpse the vital moments of hope and healing that follow.

This collection also features a bespoke interview with the writer at then end of the book, delving deeper into the craft, influences, and life behind their work.
