Memory Bank: A Biography of Blythe House

Photographs and oral history interviews tell the hidden history of Blythe House, for 40 years a museum store in London holding millions of historical objects. Blythe House in London, originally built in 1903 for the Post Office Savings Bank, has for more than 40 years been the store for three national museums, the Science Museum, the Victoria and Albert Museum and the British Museum, holding millions of historical objects.The collections have now been moved to purpose-built sites, and Blythe House’s closure has been marked by specially commissioned photographs of its architecture, collections and occupants, along with personal testimonies. Memory Bank takes you behind the scenes to reveal one building’s hidden history and its unique place in British cultural and social life.

Laura Humphreys has more than ten years' experience in curatorship, at Royal Museums Greenwich, the Museum of the Home and the Science Museum Group, and is the author of Globalising Housework. Kevin Percival is a photographer specialising in documentary and portraiture, who has worked for museums for eight years. Formerly at the Science Museum and the British Museum, he now works for the Victoria & Albert Museum. His last documentary monograph Tanera (Ar Du`thaich) was published in 2018.
